A baby crib is your babys first furniture. It is the only item in the world that you are intending to leave your baby unattended for periods of time. That is the more reason to buy only cribs that are safest. The baby crib will also be the place where your child will be spending most of the time. Cribs are expected to be of use until the child is about two to three years old when the baby is prepared to be sleeping in a real bed.

Baby crib standards for manufacture have been at work since 1973. Old cribs therefore should already be discarded in favor of the newer designs that meet safety standards. Parents are lavish when it comes to providing for their children. And so it is expected that parents will want the best baby crib. You can always opt to buy the most expensive baby crib and parents whenever they can afford it will always try their hardest to provide for their children what they think is best.

The best for your child is not necessarily mean the expensive kind as features has to take a back seat when it comes to safety. There are standards that should be observed when selecting a baby crib.

Safety

The Consumers Products Safety Commission has mandatory safety standards and good baby crib manufacturer subject each crib to tests before they put it out into the market. Any crib therefore that is in circulation should have the seal of passing the mandatory standards.
All finishes, paints, stains, lacquer etc. must be lead free. Babys love to bite and put into their mouths anything that fancies them. You would not want your baby chewing on materials with lead content.

Be on the lookout for warped slats and weak rails as even the most expensive is subject to human errors. It is not only the babys weight that the crib could be supporting. You could be leaning into it when picking up the child and your added weight might break a weak rail and could injure both you and your child.

Avoid also decorations that could trap your baby. Everything could be working fine in the earlier months but when the baby starts to grow and become active, fancy decorations could injure the child.

Do not settle for baby cribs made from inferior woods. Inferior woods could be cheaper but it will not provide the stability that you might need. Remember the crib that was passed on and used from sibling to sibling? Baby cribs are like that. Your next children could be using the same crib and if you do not check out for stability, well you know what usually happens.
Some of the mandatory standard for cribs design that should help you during your selection.

-Distances between slats should be not more than 2 3/8 inches.

-The top of the drop sides when in raised position should be at least 26 inches above the support from the lowest position.

-Drop sides must be not less than 9 inches above the mattress support.

-The size of the frame should at least be 27 inches wide and 51 inches long.

It is always best to buy cribs months before your child is born. Cribs are not staples in many stores and when you have a particular baby crib in mind, locating a particular baby crib could be difficult and time consuming.

Names are important because they represent a persons identity. The names we are given typically stay with us for a lifetime. This is why prospective parents struggle so hard to find the perfect baby name.

But, choosing a name can be difficult. After all, there are many different ways to go about it. Names can be chosen based on origins, meaning, uniqueness, or something else. This leaves many people wondering exactly how to get started. If youre looking for the perfect baby name, here are some baby naming tips that may help:

Popularity
Though there have always been extremely common names, most baby names tend to follow some sort of trend or cycle of popularity. Some parents prefer choosing a baby name that is rare, while others try to find a name that is fairly popular. Think about how you felt as a child. Did it make you feel special that nobody shared your name? Was it frustrating that others had the same name as you? Your child may end up with many of the same feelings if given a unique or popular name. Carefully consider these feelings before choosing a baby name.

Boy Names vs. Girl Names
Many of todays popular names are ambiguous. For example, names like Riley, Madison, Jaden, and Taylor can be used for a boy or a girl. While some parents only choose names that provide clear gender identification, others feel this is of little importance. If clear gender identification is important to you, make sure you choose the name carefully. As mentioned, many of the most popular baby names are now interchangeable.

Meaning
Baby names are words, and every word has a meaning. If you need help choosing the perfect name, you may want to look up the meanings of a few baby names. Many parents choose a name based on a meaning that reflects qualities and traits that they hope their child will possess.

Opinions
When it comes to baby names, everyone has an opinion. Some people may even suggest that you name your baby after them. Try to take these opinions in stride. Its impossible to please everyone and it is absolutely impossible to choose a name that everyone will like. You will be much better off choosing a baby name that makes you happy.

Spelling and/or Pronunciation
Spelling and pronunciation is an important factor to consider when choosing a baby name. Because every name can have an alternative spelling, baby name possibilities are virtually endless. Before you decide to go with an alternative spelling, think carefully. Though there is nothing wrong with being unique, your child may have to spend a good number of years correcting people on the spelling and/or pronunciation of the name.

What many parents seem to forget when naming a child is that they also must choose a middle name for their babies. This is a very important step in the process in which a child is named. A middle name not only adds to the personal identity of a person but it also gives them another term that people can refer to them as. This is highly useful when a person finds he or she has the same first name as someone else, as the middle name will almost assuredly be different. This article should help guide new parents into choosing the best middle name for their newborn child!

To start out with, middle names can be the same as a father or mothers name. While it is usually not a good idea to name a child the second in line of a name his or her father or mother had, it is a completely different story with middle names. Many cultures and religions only have middle names in which the parents name is used, so it is quite common to see this happen. This middle name, however, is not the best choice and should only be used if it is tradition or if there are really no better options available.

Another way of choosing a middle name is by finding a close friend or relative and giving the child their first name as a middle name. Many times parents will use the godparents name as the middle name. It also makes sense to honor someone who has helped parents face and overcome struggles in life by naming a child, at least partially, after this person. And of course, if a close one has passed away recently then their first name is a good candidate for a middle name as well.

For parents who want to name their child something extravagant or weird, like Strawberry or Jelly, it is harmful and a bad decision to do so with the first name. But, again, this unorthodox name can be used as a middle name. For starters, no one close to the child really has to know or refer to them by their middle name most of the time, making an embarrassing choice okay in this regard. And if a parent is just dead-set on using a weird name, than it is of course better to use it as a middle name than a first name which identifies a child for life.

Naming a child, first or middle, is a long process in which two parents, usually, debate amongst each other and swap ideas. Each name should be carefully thought out and planned for because a child is going to have to, unless he or she changes their name, live with these names for the rest of their lives. The middle name is an important addition to any persons name and should not be pushed aside until the very end. It should get just as much consideration as the first name. And parents remember, the middle name is the one that you can have fun with!

It is a sad fact but one we have to come to grips with, not all baby cribs are safe. Baby cribs are supposed to keep your baby safe during sleep but did you know that when badly constructed or improperly assembled a baby crib can be a serious hazard to your child? No matter how expensive the baby crib is parents should use caution when choosing a crib for the nursery, and should follow instructions to the letter.

One of the biggest mistakes some people make is they “assume” that all cribs are safe, but whether you are using a brand new baby crib that you just bought a couple of months ago from a reputable store or recycling the one that you used for your older kids, or a second hand one from a garage sale it is important that you closely inspect the crib for hazardous possibilities as they may be lurking in places that you would not even consider remotely dangerous! Here are some tips that can help keep your child safe in a baby crib.

Close inspection
When buying a baby crib or when you are about to use one, make sure that everything is in place and there are no broken or bent parts. Sharp edges, missing joints and small removable parts in baby cribs can also be dangerous as they can be choking hazards.

Side edges and protrusions can also become strangulation hazards as blankets, necklaces and shirts can be caught. Never buy or use cribs that have these flaws.

Follow the instructions
Never believe that for one-minute you know everything about baby cribs just because you have used one before. And no matter how much knowledge you think you have, it is still imperative that you read the manual and instruction guide.

In addition to providing the step-by-step guide on how to set-up the baby crib from the box, the manual will also contain some tips on how to properly care for your crib and to avoid accidents while using it.

Non-toxic finishes
The baby cribs finish should be made with non-toxic materials that are recommended for young children. As babies body systems, especially the immune systems are still developing, it is important that they be protected from chemicals and toxins in the environment. When buying a used baby crib, make sure that the finish is sound and not flaking or peeling, also if it looks like it has been refinished you may want to find a different crib as it would be impossible to know for sure whether it was refinished with a child safe non-toxic material.

Drop sides
Though the dropside mechanism in baby cribs can be very convenient, it can also spell disaster if not working correctly or the latches are not secure. Be sure that when you do put your baby inside the crib, you have raised the drop side and the latches are secured. Some parents may remember to raise it up but forget to secure it, which can lead to accidents.

Keep the crib uncluttered
Remember that the more things inside the baby crib, the greater the chances of an accident, I’m sure you’re generally aware that anything can be a potential choking and strangulation hazard. To help avoid this, keep the baby crib to a bare minimum, only placing things that are absolutely necessary like a pillow and a blanket. Toys inside the crib are okay if your baby is awake and playing under supervision, but always remember to remove them when sleeping. Parents are also advised to avoid placing dangling toys on the side of the crib as loose straps may capture your baby and create a strangulation hazard.

Check for alerts and call-backs
The Consumer Product Safety Commission lists safety tips, alerts and call-back warnings on baby cribs on their website at www.cpsc.gov and should be followed.

If parents want to share their excitement with friends and family, a baby birth announcement is one of the most important tasks to complete.

It may be difficult to decide the style of baby birth announcement to send out. One great idea is to choose a style that coordinates with your nursery. Lots of work has already gone into making the nursery ready for baby. Choose a similar style for the baby birth announcement and save time deciding on a theme.

Another great idea for the birth announcement is to include a photo-that is if the parents have time. It can be difficult to get a great picture and can take some time. It is important to be patient when taking pictures but eventually a shot worthy of the baby birth announcement will be taken. A photo taken with parents and new baby are a great way to share with everyone the new family entity. If it is too difficult or too time consuming to take a picture right after baby birth, send the announcement first and then send pictures at a later date.

There is a standard for what type of information should be included in the baby
birth announcement. First the parents names and then the new babys name should be included. Information about the baby that should be put in the announcement includes birthday, birth weight and height. This should all the information friends and family need to learn about the new baby.

It is important to remember that birth announcements are not a request for gifts. Gifts are something that should be taken care of with the baby shower before babys birth. However, some friends and family will send gifts, and may even send them before the announcements are sent. When ordering baby birth announcements, it is a good idea to order thank you notes that coordinate with the theme. This way the parents will be ready to send thank you notes when gifts arrive.

A new baby is such a happy and busy time. Choosing the right baby birth announcement is the perfect way to share the happiness with friends and family. For a wonderful selection of baby birth announcements and baby shower invitations, as well as thank you notes, visit Dependable Printing.

For new parents the arrival of the newborn brings a lot of excitement in their lives. They might look fragile and vulnerable, which they are, but there are some surprising things babies can do, much to the delightful fun of many people.

Most of the babies can do the following surprising things to us:

1. They can hear everything! Babies hear extremely well: they receive up to 20 000 vibrations per minute, while adults receive only 14 000. The fetus starts to react to sounds since the beginning of the 24th week of pregnancy and a week after delivery they easily distinguish their mothers voice from the voice of other people.
2. In the case of distinguishing from the mother tongue and a foreign language, the mimic plays an important part for babies. In USA, a test was made: to some babies a videotape recorded in English but with no sound was played. Later on, another tape without sound was played, but recorded in French. The babies showed clearly more interest to the French videotape than to the one recorded in their mother tongue because they considered familiar the English tape. Unfortunately this ability is lost after the age of 6 months.
3. Prattling with the hands. Studies have shown that babies who grow up confronted with a sign language also try to communicate with their hands. They do it (like in the case of learning foreign languages) slow and unsteady at the beginning-they prattle with the hands!
4. Im watching you mummy! Long before humans can speak they understand what others say. It seems that babies understand through observing the mimic of the nearby persons. So, mummy, be careful when you say something!
5. The older they are the smarter they get? Thats what we think. Researchers have discovered that as we pass through the life we lose some of our abilities, especially the ability of learning. This ability is most effective at the age of 6 months. So, the idea that they are young and they can not or do not know is just an illusion.
6. Im just like you daddy! During the first days of life the new generation seems to resemble to the father. This is only a joke nature plays: it has decided that so all fathers in the world long before genetic tests were invented- could recognize their babies and take care of them and their mothers.
7. Little Einstein. Mary has 21 candies and gets another 19. Tommy has 51. Who has more candies? Of course, who knows how to add knows the answer. Heres what tests say: even some children who do not know how to add can indicate the right answer. They have a great intuition!
8. What are you looking at?! It is not difficult at all for grownups to distinguish human faces from one another even if they might look alike. Still, when we have to distinguish between two resembling figures of monkeys we are totally unable. Not the same thing happens to the babies. Tests have proven that they possess this ability, but they lose it in time.
9. Can taste and smell and have shown preferences for their own mothers…(read the full article at the link below)

The joy of a new baby is certainly special and something that all new parents experience. However, a lack of sleep is also part of having a new baby and new parents notoriously get very little sleep, if any at all. Fortunately, there are some strategies and tips to help new parents get some sleep when the new baby comes. Of course, with a baby you will never get an over abundance of sleep, but these tips will help you at least get enough sleep to keep your sanity.

Tip #1 Take Turns
When the baby starts crying both parents generally wake up, even if only one attends to the baby. However, in the first couple of months both parents might get up each time the baby cries. This will lead to a lack of sleep for both parents. The best plan is for mom and dad to make a plan of who will get up when to comfort the crying baby. Generally, taking turns is really the best option and will help everyone get just a little more sleep.

Tip #2 Nap With Baby
If you are caring for the baby and are tired and the baby goes to sleep then you should take a nap as well. This will allow you to get some much needed sleep. So, whether the baby naps in the morning, afternoon, or early evening you should also get a little rest because you never know when the baby might wake up.

Tip #3 Accept Help
Frequently when you have a new baby there are plenty of people willing to help from parents, siblings, friends, and other family members. So, when you really need to get some sleep just accept some of the help that is being offered. Having your mom care for the baby just a couple of hours will allow you to get some much needed sleep.

Tip #4 Keep Baby in Nursery
The baby should sleep in the nursery and not with the parents. Many times it is tempting to allow the baby to sleep with the parents, but this is not healthy for the child or the parents. So, put the baby to sleep in his crib in the nursery. Then, when the baby cries one parent can easily go attend to the baby without disturbing the other parent. This allows a little more sleep for new parents.

Tip #5 Feed Baby Before You Sleep
If your baby has been asleep for several hours and it is around 11 pm and you are getting ready for bed simply wake baby for a feeding. Most babies wake during the night because they are hungry, so if you feed baby late before you go to bed it is likely they will sleep until early morning or 6-7 hours. This will allow you to get some continuous sleep, even if it is not as much as you want.

If you’re having a baby and would like to register for baby gifts, all you have to do is go to the Internet to a website that has baby gift registries, sign up and select the gifts that like or need. There are many websites online that host these registries. They are convenient, easy to use and a big help for those families and friends who are looking for the perfect gift to give your new arrival.

Registering online is easy. There is usually a form to fill out asking name, address, phone number, etc. When that is completed, you will be prompted to select from among hundreds of baby items. As you choose, your items will be stored in the registry. When someone logs on to the registry, they select from the items you listed. The item they choose is then listed as purchased.

A baby gift registry is truly a nice way to spread the word about the arrival of ones bundle of joy. It offers all the items that parents need to care for their baby. Most products offered are quality baby goods and are priced reasonably.

Baby registries make shopping easy and saves time and money. There is no running from store to store, hoping you select the right gift — one that someone else hasn’t already purchased. Purchases online are usually made with a credit card, but one can also usually mail a check. Once payment is processed, the gift is immediately mailed. Most websites are secure, so there is no need to worry about stolen information.

Registries are set up with the idea of knowing what expecting or new parents need and giving family and friends the opportunity to purchase baby gifts the parents would like to receive.
