Special Natural Skin Care For Babies

Posted by admin

We spend hours and countless amounts of money on our own personal skin care, trying different lotions and potions to find the perfect product for our needs. Our babies deserve the same special attention when selecting skin care products as well.

Babies and little children seldom actually need lotions and creams unless they have dry skin. Commercial products on the market contain synthetics and chemicals that can be harsh on tender skin, so many parents are opting for natural skin care and bath products for their babies.

For babies and toddlers especially, the skin care product most frequently used are baby wipes, and the perfumes and dyes found in commercial brands can play havoc with their sensitive bottoms. Parents use baby wipes not only at diaper changes, but for all sorts of reasons, cleaning little faces and hands being two very common tasks. Although possible to find brands with little synthetics, another alternative is to make home-made baby wipes to make certain the ingredients are all natural.

Another skin care problem parents with babies face is diaper rash. Even with the best of changing routines, diaper rash can occur, and frequently applying chemical rash creams can often aggravate the problem even more, causing prolonged discomfort for baby. Help prevent diaper rash with frenquent diaper changes and cleaning baby with natural soap and water.

Natural Baby Wipes

1/4 cup aloe vera juice
4 drops lavender essential oil
1/2 roll paper towels cut lengthwise
1/4 cup water
2 drops tea tree oil

Simply mix the ingredients and store in a plastic container.

There are many natural baby and child skin care products available online. Marlo Quinn is a new natural skin care company with impeccable skin care products for families. Its also possible to prepare natural baby wipes at home using the recipe above. Products made from natural ingredients are the best choice for babies and children.

Tip-Top Treatment For Baby Bottoms

Posted by admin

Until recently, mothers have had to rely on adult over-the-counter antifungal creams to treat their babies’ cases of diaper rash complicated by yeast infections. For the first time, a prescription product-Vusion™ (0.25% miconazole nitrate, 15% zinc oxide and 81.35% white petrolatum) Ointment-is available and is indicated and specifically formulated for the treatment of this condition, called diaper dermatitis complicated by candidiasis (DDCC), in infants 4 weeks and older. Confirmation of DDCC is determined by microscopic evaluation for presence of pseudohyphae or budding yeast.

DDCC is a highly prevalent rash in infants that can cause great discomfort and distress. Typically, DDCC infections are characterized by a rash of bright red patches with irregular, raised borders and white scales on the surface. The main patches are often surrounded by smaller patches and painful sores or blisters.

Infants often get DDCC when their diapers chafe and break the surface of the skin, making it easier for microorganisms such as yeast to invade the skin. Other risk factors for DDCC include diarrhea, prolonged diaper rash, skin hygiene and the recent use of broad-spectrum antibiotics. The condition can occur anytime of year, but DDCC is often triggered in the winter months when the use of antibiotics commonly prescribed for illnesses such as ear infections is at its peak.

Treatment options have included the use of antifungal products, steroids and combination products that are not specifically approved for the treatment of DDCC or for use on infants.

“With Vusion™ Ointment now approved for the U.S. market, pediatricians and dermatologists can prescribe a treatment specifically meant for the condition that it was designed for and that is well tolerated for use on infants,” said Dr. Mary Spraker, a pediatric dermatologist and associate professor in Emory University’s Department of Dermatology, who assisted in the design of a Phase 3 clinical trial of the product. “Doctors are no longer reliant on prescribing antifungal agents intended for adults that have not been tested on children with DDCC.”

Vusion™ Ointment was developed by Barrier Therapeutics, a Princeton, N.J.-based pharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of products in the field of dermatology.

Skin Care Products for your New Baby

Posted by admin

As most of you know, a baby’s skin is considerably more sensitive than the average adult. For that reason, it is vitally important that you use natural skin care products for your child. Many skin care products contain chemicals and fragrances that can irritate your new baby’s skin. By knowing which products to avoid, and which products you should use, you can ensure that your little one grows up with healthy beautiful skin.

Weleda Diaper Care Cream is by far one of the best products we have found to date. Weleda was established back in 1921 by physicians and pharmacists under the guidance of Dr. Rudolf Steiner. The main ingredients in their diaper care cream are almond oil, calendula flower, chamomile flower, lanolin, and lavender oil. These ingredients are contained in a base of zinc oxide. This product provides highly effective treatment for painful diaper rash. It is truly one-of-a-kind.

Lavera Baby Toothpaste is yet another excellent product, with absolutely no harmful ingredients. It contains no fluoride, phosphate, or sugar. It is made with all natural silica, which is very effective at cleaning your baby’s new teeth. This toothpaste is also ideal for helping your growing child with learning to brush his or her own teeth, as it is safe to swallow. This product is also certified organic.

Dr. Hauschka’s Sunscreen Spray for Children is an incredible product. It has an SPF of 20, and is ideal for day-to-day use. The wonderful thing about this sunscreen is that it is colored, and allows one to see exactly where it has been applied. It has a pure and natural composition, and is safe for use on all skin types. It is also water resistant, so parents can relax knowing their children have the best sun protection on the beach or in the water. Furthermore, the plant-based nutrients moisturize your little one’s skin while the sun dries it out.

Lavera Baby Shampoo will transform bath time with your baby into an oasis of fun. As with other products from this excellent company, Lavera Baby Shampoo is comprised of all natural ingredients such as organic almond and wheat extract. This tear-free shampoo is perfect for your baby’s sensitive skin, as it helps to maintain the natural moisture balance of your baby’s skin. This gentle, mild-foaming shampoo is perfect for children and adults alike.

Regardless of the products you have chosen to use with your children, it cannot hurt to learn more about the other products that are available on the market. While many companies advertise their products as natural, most of them cannot be considered truly natural. The products mentioned above are just a few of the excellent products we have discovered and had the pleasure to use. We hope you check them out for yourself.

Before using body powder on you or your baby, consider that not all body powder products are baby-safe. Body powders as well as baby powders, having talc as main ingredient may do more harm to you and your baby than good.

1. Talc Is Like Abestos!

Talc is a rock that is mined and processed by crushing and grinding, drying the grinded materials, and then milling them. Through processing, a number of trace minerals are eliminated, but some minute fibers that are comparable to ABESTOS are not separated. Talc, as it is cheap and widely available, is the main ingredient of most baby powders, perfumed body powders and medicated body powders. You put yourself and your baby at risk when you inhale these products. Body powder is used after bath to keep skin smelling good or to relieve irritated skin. Plenty of individuals are still unaware of the inextricable connection between talc and asbestos. In fact, these two chemicals are very much alike.

2. Talc Causes Cancer!

Particles of talc can cause lung and ovarian tumors. Studies have clearly shown that constant and repeated use of powder in the females genital area lead to cancer! Talc is able to move inside the reproductive system becomes lodged along the ovary lining. Studies show that talc particles are found in the ovarian tumor and researchers say that women with ovarian tumors have the habit of using talcum powder on their genital area.

3. Powder Inhalation Causes Deaths!

Since the early 1980s, records prove that several infants die each year due to accidental baby powder inhalation. Talc is a household hazard. It is used on babies to prevent diaper rash and to absorb moisture in the skin, keeping babies fresh. Evidently, dusting with baby powder endangers your infants lungs as there is great possibility of inhaling the product. It is dangerous to expose your baby to this carcinogen. Swelling and irritation of the lungs may occur when the powder is inhaled, and therefore may lead to breathing difficulties. Also, if talc gets in contact with babys rash or broken skin, inflammatory reaction may take place and that could be very uncomfortable.

4. Use A Substitute!

- Instead of powder, use petroleum jelly on babies bottoms every diaper change. It is very effective in preventing diaper rash, because it provides the skin with a film, keeping wetness off the skin.
- Use medicated ointments to treat rashes on babies and on your skin.
- Ask your pediatrician about other options and products that you can safely use as a baby powder substitute.
- Cornstarch mixed with baking soda is a great and safer alternative, to keep you and your baby fresh. It is much coarser than body or baby powder, and you can also add fragrance in it, if you want to smell good after applying it.

5. Products Worth Checking Into

- Neways body and baby powder
- Natural body powder
- Dermaglow Natural body and baby powder
- Lady Emilys Talc-free body powder
- Johnsons cornstarch baby powder
- Burts bee dusting body powder
- PuriSorb. Very mild, good for all types of skin and formulated with chitosan, aloe vera, tapioca starch, and vitamin E.

6. Guidelines

- Check and read the label. The product MUST be talc-free.
- Check the date on the container and make sure that the product is fresh. Powder that is stored too long can breed bacteria and contaminate your or your babys skin.
- Dont apply baby powder directly from the container. Pour it first on your palm and gently pat it unto babys bottom. Keep powder away from babys face.
- Likewise, be gentle in applying body powder to yourself. Never dust it on your face and neck directly, to avoid inhaling it, as this can lead to throat irritation.
- Dont use body powder on both your and your baby girls genital area, as well as to areas surrounding it.
- Avoid putting powder on babys skin creases, as the powder cakes can build up and encourage bacteria growth and can cause fungal infection.
- If you have sensitive skin, an unscented body powder will be best for you.
- During diaper change, never let your baby play with the powder; it can accidentally spill on his face, causing him to choke, or that he will inhale too much powder and lead to serious lung complication.

Diaper Rash, Diaper Rash Diaper Rash…What to Do? What to Do? What to Do? Grandma El to the Rescue!

Before the rescue, lets learn more about Diaper Rashwhat can cause it, how it can progress if untreated, and how to prevent secondary bacterial and fungal infections which can invade improperly cared for babies bottoms.

The main cause of diaper dermatitis is simply contact of urine on the skin. Between diaper changes, urine begins to break down into ammonia and other chemical by-products. Fecal matter in the diaper area, between diaper changes, can cause the rapid proliferation of bacteria and or fungus which can infect the already irritated diaper area.

Obviously, the breakdown of urine, its continual contact with the skin, and resulting skin irritation, begins the all too common diaper rash syndrome. It was thought that Luvs, Pampers and other disposable diapers would be a better answer than the common cloth diaper. The new diapers were better. But diaper rash is still an all too persistent and difficult problem to deal withuntil Grandma Els Diaper Rash Remedy & Prevention, everything else either didnt work too well, or did not work at all.

The most important treatment in healing diaper rash is PREVENTION!

Prevent urine from coming into contact with the babys tender skin by putting a barrier on the skin that prevents urine and fecal matter from contact with tender bottoms by barrier action. Grandma Els, as its smoothed on babys diaper area (peri-anal) creates a barrier that allows the skin to breathe or respirate, while keeping moisture and other irritants from penetrating to the skin. This preventative action of Grandma Els is accompanied by a healing, soothing action to stop the beginning of irritation that produces Diaper Rash.

It is important that the skin is always able to breathe or respirate to induce the healing process. Many diaper rash products are heavy creams, pastes or lotions. While some will create a barrier to keep moisture away from the skin, these products DO NOT have the capability of allowing the skin to breathe. Thereby, the existing moisture can not be released and the healing process is hindered dramatically. It is recommended that you use a semi-occlusive ointment such as Grandma Els Diaper Rash Remedy & Prevention.

Used for over 30 years in treating and preventing infantile and geriatric diaper dermatitis, Grandma Els is available to all.RIGHT NOW!!

These are some frequently asked questions about diaper rash:
What is diaper rash?
1. It is an irritation of the skin in the peri-anal area that is most often caused by ammonia forming due to urine breakdown.

1. It is caused by prolonged contact of a urine soaked diaper on a babys skin. The skin turns red and tissue breaks down, creating a rash. This worsens as the skin remains in contact with urine and feces.
2. Chafing or rubbing of diaper or pull ups on the area
3. Possible allergic reaction to diaper
4. Bacterial or fungal infection in rash area
5. Allergic reaction to food can cause urine to be irritating

Who can get diaper rash?
1. It is common on babies between the ages of 2-24 months
2. It also can occur on babies whose diapers are not changed frequently
3. It may also occur on babies who are taking antibiotics or are nursing while mother might be taking antibiotics
4. It can also occur on babies as they begin to eat solid foods (allergic reaction)

What are the symptoms of diaper rash?
1. Red, irritated, and possibly warm skin in and around the stomach, genitals, and inside the skin folds of the thighs and bottom
2. Pain, burning and itching, and an unhappy baby!

Is diaper rash contagious?

3. Use a gentle cleanser formulated especially for babies skin
4. After washing your baby, gently pat dry the area, do not rub the area
5. Make sure the diapers used fit properly, so they do not rub against the skin

How long does diaper rash usually last?
1. In general without treatment, a diaper rash will last several days if not infected. If left untreated, a severe case can last up to 10-14 days or more
2. In most cases, Grandma Els Diaper Rash Remedy and Prevention can clear diaper rash within 24 hours

What types of products are not acceptable in treating diaper rash?
1. Ointments, with the exception of Grandma Els are occlusive, preventing skin respiration. Only a semi-occlusive ointment, such as Grandma Els works properly.
2. Creams are usually somewhat drying, have no protective activity, and allow all types of external stimuli (urine, feces, and allergens) to contact the skin causing further problems. Therefore, creams are not a good choice for a babys rash treatment.
3. Lotions are not protective at all, and therefore have little value in treating or preventing diaper rash.
4. Some soaps and detergents can cause allergic sensitivity to further the breakdown of babys delicate bottom.

Should I call my pediatrician?
1. If after several days, the rash is still visible, consult your pediatrician
2. If the rash has blisters or bumps, is oozing pus or bleeding, consult your pediatrician
3. If your baby has a rash and fever, consult your physician
4. If your baby has a rash and has urine that smells stronger than usual, or many loose stools, consult your pediatrician
5. If after properly treating your babys diaper rash, it still persists, consult your pediatrician

What other types of diaper rash occur if proper treatment is not begun?
Rash can further break down allowing either bacteria, or fungus to take hold and infect the skin. Common organisms causing the infection are E. Coli (bacteria) and other fungal infections such as Candida Albicans

How can I treat diaper rash infected with bacteria or fungi?
Consult your physician immediately and he or she will prescribe a suitable anti-bacterial or anti-fungal product to eradicate the infection

What other types of diaper dermatitis exist?
Contact irritants such as urine, fecal matter, poison ivy, oak or sumac, insect bites, soap allergy, rough rather than soft clothing causing skin abrasions, infrequent diaper changes, and poor skin cleansing techniques

Is diaper rash a common problem?
Yes, diaper rash is a common problem. To help prevent diaper rash, change diapers frequently, keep the area dry, and use no cloth diapers. Definitely use Grandma Els Diaper Rash Remedy and Prevention. The common problem will disappear!

Mommy & Baby: More Parenting Tidbits

Posted by admin

Diapers: as a rule, most PDF babies will need a diaper change that corresponds with their feeding times. This will total 6-8 diapers per day, or more if you manage to change your baby prior to her pooping. Most new parents learn to time the diaper change to correspond with the after-meal expulsion of solid waste, but if you miss it, youll have a few more diapers to go through in the course of the day.

Diaper rash: some babies have sensitive skin and will get a rash due to food allergies, teething, yeast infections, or sitting too long in a messy diaper. If this occurs, talk to your pediatrician about an over-the-counter remedy or a prescription product for a more serious situation.

Growth spurts: the first of these confusing times may come as early as 10 days after birth. They are typically preceded by a sleepy day and a voracious appetite (either nursing or bottle-feeding). They may show up again at 3, 6, and 12 weeks and again at 4 and 6 months. If you notice that your baby is no longer satisfied after feedings like she has been, you might be approaching a growth spurt. If you are nursing, add a feeding or two to your routine to accommodate your babys needs and to increase your milk supply.

Immunizations: you will not hear me ever say that an immunization is a bad thing; there are simply too many deadly diseases which can be prevented by immunizing your baby. Talk to your pediatrician about the timing of different injections and any concerns you might have, but understand that part of the reason we have such healthy babies these days and an incredibly low rate of infant mortality is because weve largely wiped out infantile diseases through immunizations.

Pacifiers & thumb sucking: breastfeeding moms should not permit themselves to be used as pacifiers. Sometimes a baby will have a need to suck beyond what is normal for feeding; in these cases, an actual pacifier is very useful. There is no such thing as nipple confusion, as your breast and your babys pacifier feel and taste nothing alike. Babies are very smart little creatures and are able to discern between the two easily. Some children will not take a pacifier but will take their thumbif you dont have a problem with that, go ahead and permit it.

Spitting up: nearly all babies spit up from time to time; some will do this more than others. If your baby is healthy and growing and gaining weight, dont worry about it. Projectile throwing-up is not the same as spitting upthis is powerfully rejecting the entire contents of the stomach, not just urping up a little milk. If your baby does this frequently, see your pediatrician.

Getting your toddler to perform toileting independently is a welcome milestone for any parent. Few of us want to be changing diapers much past the childs second birthday. However, children vary greatly in their adoption of the potty routine which is influenced by a childs innate ability, aptitude and maturity. However, there several tips and techniques you can use to hasten the blessed day when your toddler says: Mommy, I did potty by myself.

1) Get your child ready – explain to your child that it’s time to do “pee-pee” and “poo-poo” in the potty. Promote the benefits of being trained such as no more diaper rash, interruptions for diaper changing, being clean and dry. Discuss training as an important stage of growing up.

2) Make it fun first and foremost, make this a game. Children will naturally resist anything which is not framed as a fun learning experience. Use play, music, toys, and stories as part of the experience to keep the child from getting bored or distracted.

3) Create a ritual try to make the experience repeatable so your child knows what to expect each time and gets into the routine of sitting and staying on the potty.

4) Use props use of books, toys, videos and music all help create an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment which is so essential.

5) Time it right Try repeating the process every hour for 2 to 4 minutes. If you can do this close to times your child usually has a bowel movement or urination, such as just after a meal, even better.

6) Be prepared – If you are traveling or away from home, bring a folding, plastic adapter ring that fits onto an adult toilet seat is useful. Extra tissue and wipes will be useful in bathrooms that are short on supplies.

7) Give praise give you child social praise for sitting on the potty patiently or for staying dry. If the potty routine is successful, consider some reward (e.g. special prize, book or foods) that are especially valued.
8) Show your child how to clean up – demonstrate how to wash hands and dry hands on a towel.

Remember that training you child takes patience and perseverance. Staying on task and being consistent send an important message to your child. Above all, dont let your child feel forced. Its important to keep the whole experience fun and enjoyable for the best results.

Yes, I think disposable diapers make potty training harder. If you look at the average age a child was potty trained even just a generation ago, you can see that kids now take a lot longer to give up the diaper in exchange for using the potty. Lets take a look at some of the reasons that modern disposable diapers make it harder for your child to be potty trained and what you can do to make it easier on him or her.

One of the biggest improvements that has been made in the disposable diaper industry over the last decade, is how quickly the diapers absorb moisture. The obvious advantage of this is that it keeps babys skin try and prevents diaper rash. The disadvantage is that your child does not feel when he or she gets wet. There is no uncomfortable wet and squishy thing hanging around his bottom. Everything is perfectly dry and comfortable. So why should your child bother with a potty if there is nothing wrong with peeing and pooping in his diaper.

The disposable diaper industry has of course picked up on this fact and is not catering to the parents of 3 to 5 year olds. We see pictures of children in this age group on diaper packages, baby and parenting magazines and of course in the diaper company ads. Which brings us to reason number two why children are getting potty trained later.

It has become socially acceptable to have an older child use diapers. Preschools and Day Care Centers are now catering to the parents of these children by allowing children to attend who are not completely potty trained. There is no social pressure on parents at all to get their child potty trained. Combined with the fact that the diapers dont feel wet anymore, it is easy for parents to miss the moment when their child is ready to give the potty a try.

So, what other options do you have as a parent? You could use cloth diapers for a while to make sure your child feels when he is wet, or let him go in regular underwear with a pair of protective plastic panties over it. If the weather allows, let him run around bare bottom outside, or do the same inside, keeping a close eye on him so you can drag him to the bathroom when needed.

Other than that, just give potty training a try every once in a while. Sooner or later you will catch the right time and get your little one potty trained.

Babies Minor Maladies

Posted by admin

Babies can have a ton of little issues, and we worry ourselves silly over them, though most are no real threat to babys health. Here are a list of the most common little ailments, how to treat them at home, and when to call the doctor.

Diaper Rash Diaper rash is caused by babys bottom being constantly exposed to wetness. For most babies, changing their diaper a little more often and applying an over the counter cream are enough to solve the problem. If all your measures dont work, or if the rash looks different than a typical diaper rash, call the doctor.

Cradle Cap Cradle cap is the presence of scales on the babys scalp, and usually occurs in very young infants. It is actually a form of dermatitis, and usually is not bothersome to the child. For most babies, a massage using petroleum jelly followed by a shampoo will take care of the problem. Try this at every bath until the problem stops recurring. Cradle cap is worsened by sweating, so keep your babys head cool, avoiding the use of hats. If these measures dont work, your doctor can prescribe an ointment or shampoo. Babies typically outgrow cradle cap within the first six months of life.

Mystery Fever Nearly all babies have this at one time or another. A low grade fever, with no other accompanying symptoms. If your baby is under two months of age, you should seek medical attention with any fever. Otherwise, as long as the fever doesnt go above 102F, you need not treat it unless it is making your baby uncomfortable or unable to sleep. Fever is the bodys way of fighting infection, so dont rush to treat a fever, if your baby is otherwise healthy. Keep her cool, give her plenty of fluids, watch and wait. Talk to your doctor about his guidelines regarding when to call him concerning a fever. Regardless, any fever which reaches 105 rectally, or a fever accompanied by signs of dehydration (infrequent urination, sunken fontanel, dry lips), or a feverish baby who has a stiff neck, is limp or has purple spots on the skin, should be treated immediately.

These are three of the most common minor baby ailments. Though its comforting to know how to treat these at home, never hesitate to call your doctor if you think its necessary. A Mothers intuition is a powerful thing. If you think somethings amiss, it probably is, so check it out, even if its only to satisfy your own mind.

Thats the end of this ebook. If you would like more information, you really need to download my main ebook Mommy to Mommy The Truth About Taking Care of Baby from http://www.educatedmother.com. This is a much longer ebook, where I am able to go into a lot more information.
