Along with planning the baby shower theme, games, and guests, a baby shower host must also plan the menu. A baby shower with no food certainly would not be a happy event, especially for the pregnant mom who is most always thirsty, especially in the last trimester of pregnancy. Guests often enjoy socializing with each other over good food and drink. The menu is a very important part of a good baby shower.

When thinking of the menu, you should first have an idea of how many guests will be attending the shower, and then add a few more just to be on the safe side. Planning for more people will ensure you dont run out of food halfway through, and the expectant mother can take any leftovers home, saving her the trouble of cooking, at least for that night anyway. If it is intended only to be a small gathering, then the host may opt to serve an entire meal, rather than the traditional finger foods and deserts. Large affairs are better suited to appetizers, soups, chips, finger foods. You, the host, will most likely be the one doing all the work, and footing the bill, so how involved the menu becomes should really be your choice.

Equally important as knowing how many guests to expect is knowing what time of day the shower is going to be held. If it is an afternoon shower, then most of your guests will have already eaten lunch and will be fine with finger foods and deserts. If you are planning an evening or lunch shower, then you should probably try to serve some kind of light meal, as most of your guests will probably not have eaten. Salad works well as a filler, and it is something that almost everyone likes, so if you are going to offer a meal, it would probably be good to include as an appetizer.

You should try to incorporate the baby shower theme in to your menu in some way. Maybe, for instance, if the expectant parents are having a baby boy, mix up a blue drink… maybe Sprite and blue food coloring would do the trick. There are many ideas available for themes and decorating for showers on the internet, just do some research and find one that will fit your particular shower.

Another important thing to keep in mind is how many people you will have to help you pull all this off. If you are working solo, a full course meal may be hard to pull off, and also hard on your budget as well. Time is another essential, especially if you are going it all alone. You dont want guests to arrive and still be preparing the menu.

Planning a baby shower can be a lot of work, and quite expensive as well. It is important to plan ahead, and pace yourself well. Enlist as much help as possible, as you will definitely be thankful for it. Expect the unexpected, and be prepared to have lots of fun!

All parents have gone through the same apprehensions when a new baby arrives on the scene because no one can prepare oneself beforehand for the baby. It is almost certain that not matter how much how have strived to put into place everything for the new born; a few things might just get missed. But there is always a valid reason behind it. For parents who are expecting the, wait is considerably exciting, and they tend to lose track of the everyday requirements. Welcome to this article, expectant parents, and get a closer look at what you may want to have for your new infant.

When you are making your home ready for your new born, the usual place to start from is the nursery. Typically, the crib will be the first primary object or furniture that you will purchase for your infant. Take care to check that the crib you buy fulfills all the compulsory and legal safety norms. Again, you should spend money on a good mattress for the crib, because your baby would be spending more than seventy percent of his time lying there at least in the first year of his life. Another thing to look for is bedding, and it involves the discretion of your private taste. Remember to get a cover for the mattress too. You can also invest in a changing table if you so desire since its not very critical. A must-have for your babys nursery is a baby monitor which you should not ignore to buy at all.

Now comes the question of baby supplies. It is true that parents instinctively understand the needs of their babies, yet it will do no harm at all to sometimes take a breath and reflect on the choices now and then. There are so many choices out there and they all are very popular. Always buy soap and shampoo that is gentle on the skin, since chemicals and perfumes can be damaging on a babys young and new flesh. You should also use a soft, natural and a good quality moisturizer for the baby. A few parents find it necessary to apply powder on the babys bottom to keep it from getting damp. Get hold of a baby powder that is devoid of talcum powder. Find one with a cornstarch base because otherwise it can be fatal if inhaled.

After you put into place all the required items and the necessary furniture, you can give a thought to the fun and entertainment aspect of the nursery. While it is true that the world itself is as an oyster for the baby, full of new discoveries and wonder, it will do the baby good to have some toys and playthings to keep himself entertained. A mobile would be a good choice for the baby lying for hours in his crib. Soft toys like bears and bunnies can be very interesting and it will be more so if they can provide sensory experiences too. As your child gets older, teething toys would become a part and parcel of his life. Go ahead and splurge on the toys available on the market for your baby, but be sure to check out the safety guidelines and consumer reports for specification about recalls.

First thing which comes to mind hearing the four magical words, Were having a baby? is of course a baby shower party.
The baby shower party is a great way of expressing the importance of the event as in a very perfect manner Congratulates, the expectant parents and also conveys Were happy for you, or Best Wishes. Baby shower party is sharing of happiness among the expected parents, Friends and their relatives.

Baby shower parties are organized usually at the last months of pregnancy, hosted by close friends or relative, where the main aim lies to boost the parents-to-be excited for the future member of the family. To make the baby shower party a memorable event, it requires careful planning to ensure one has a great time at the party. Though there not much rules to follow for a baby shower party, but the following tips might also be of great help.

Choosing the right place

Keeping the expected mothers health in mind, mostly baby shower parties are conducted at the parent-to-bes house. Where guests find themselves more comfortable at home, which usually among closet friends and family members. If the weather permits baby shower parties can also be organized outdoors, wherein a barbecue party or a party at the local park can add-on to the excitement of the expected parents.

Though organizing a baby shower in a reserved secluded area like bar or restaurant might be costly, but it is of less complications as the decoration, food and drinks with the post-party arrangements are already been taken care of.

Choosing he partys theme

Re-creating the mood of the expectant parents with the help of a theme to decorate the venue appropriately according to the taste of the expectant parents, which can be their favorite hangouts or movies. Or the recreation of their honeymoon spot, can be easy and a great idea.

As the whole idea is to welcome the baby, a childish atmosphere using bright colors and cartoon characters depending on the babys gender can be created.

Finalizing the menu

A lot depends upon what time the event to be held and the taste of the guests. If in case a party is thrown at the lunch or the dinnertime, usually heavier meals will be served. Whereas in most of baby shower parties the host usually serves pastries, finger food and other bake foods for convenience.

Designing a fun program

Just to refresh the guests child hood memories conducting fun games such as dum-charades would be a great idea, which is usually contrary to people beliefs for a baby shower party to be limited to mingling around eating, drinking and gift giving.

Creating the guest list and send out invitations.

As the baby shower parties are the parents events and not the host, so the choice of the people also kept in mind before hosting the party. Where list of closet friends and family members of the expectant parents is prepared with their approval to avoid any embarrassing mistakes.

Homemade invitations would be a good choice and give a personal touch, though ready-made baby shower invitations are readily available in the market.

Just to be organized, prepare a final list of attendees a few days before the baby shower. Make sure the invitation reaches the guests two or four weeks ahead giving them time to fix their schedule. The baby shower invitation would consists of date, time, place, attire preferred, gift registry, if any, the hosts contact numbers for RSVP.

As every parent has surely discovered, you are never quite prepared for the arrival of your new baby. No matter how much time and effort you might put into preparing yourselves and your home for your new arrival, there are always a few things that tend to get overlooked. This is not without good reason, mind you. It is such a wonderfully exciting time for expectant parents, so naturally you are going to be less focused on trivial day-to-day matters. For all of the expectant parents our there, this article is for you!

The nursery is the first place to start when you are preparing your home for your new baby. The crib is likely the first major piece of furniture you will purchase for your child. Be sure that the crib you purchase meets all of the mandatory and voluntary safety guidelines. You will also want to invest in a quality crib mattress, as your baby will be spending upwards of 70% of his or her first year on it. Bedding is another consideration, and very much a matter of personal preference. Just don’t forget to pick up a mattress cover! A changing table is another option, but not entirely necessary. Alternately, a baby monitor is an absolute must-have for your child’s nursery.

The next area to focus your attention on is that of baby supplies. While most people have a reasonable idea of what their children’s needs are, it is a good idea to pause and reflect every so often. Baby supplies are very popular, and there are so many choices to make. Be sure you purchase mild baby soap and shampoo, as chemicals and fragrances can have a terrible impact on a baby’s fresh skin. A high quality, all-natural, moisturizer should also be used. Some parents are keen on using baby powder to help keep their baby’s bottom dry. Try to find a baby powder that does not have a talcum powder base. It can be terribly dangerous if inhaled, so be on the lookout for one with a cornstarch base.

After all of the necessary supplies and furniture have been secured, it is time to think about fun and entertainment for your baby. While the world itself will provide hours of fun and discovery for your child, certain toys and playthings can considerably enhance their experiences. A mobile is an excellent toy for new babies, as they spend a lot of time in their crib at that age. Some soft, fluffy toys are also nice, especially if they are designed to provide some sensory stimulation of some sort. Teething toys are an absolute necessity as your child grows older. There are some wonderful toys on the market for young children, just be sure to consult the consumer reports for information about recalls and other possible dangers associated with children’s toys.

Common Cause Of Frequent Infant Crying Could Point To Digestive Problems

Every year, millions of expectant parents prepare for their new baby’s arrival.

Bringing a newborn home can be a thrilling but stressful and confusing experience.

A new baby’s frequent crying can also be a source of anxiety for inexperienced parents. According to a recent survey conducted by the Caregivers’ Advisory Board, 94 percent of first-time mothers admit to feeling stress when their babies are crying and can’t be comforted.

Although babies cry for a variety of reasons, digestive problems, such as infant gas, are a common cause. Infant gas affects more than 2 million infants per year. While excess gas can be uncomfortable for a baby, it is important for parents to remember that it is often a temporary problem.

“First, it is important that parents with questions or concerns regarding their infants talk to their pediatrician. But parents can help prevent and reduce gas by ensuring that the baby’s mouth forms a good seal around the breast or bottle, and by avoiding certain foods while breast feeding,” says Dr. James Sears, pediatrician and co-author of “The Baby Book.” “I also recommend an over-the-counter treatment, such as Infants’ Mylicon Gas Relief Drops, to safely relieve gas and make the baby more comfortable.”

The main symptoms of infant gas include uncontrollable crying and the baby pulling his or her legs up into a curled position, as if to relieve pain. To relieve these symptoms, many parents may find over-the-counter simethicone drops helpful. In fact, 95 percent of new mothers surveyed in the Caregivers’ Advisory Board survey who tried Mylicon drops said the treatment provided some relief to their babies.

A baby monitor is an essential purchase for expectant parents, as it will give you the peace of mind of being able to check on your sleeping baby wherever you are in your home. Unfortunately, these monitors are the kind of device which you are unlikely to have any experience of until the time comes when you need one, and it can be difficult to know which type to buy.

There are three basic kinds of monitor: audio, video, and movement or breathing.

The audio monitor is the most popular kind, and at its most basic consists of a transmitter that you place in your baby’s nursery, and a receiver that lets you ‘listen in’, alerting you if your baby starts to cry or otherwise shows signs of waking. The very cheapest modules will have a fixed receiver that needs to be plugged into a wall socket for power, but most models nowadays have a rechargable mobile receiver which you can carry from room to room, or even outside so long as you stay in range.

The range of your monitor system will depend on a number of factors, including the construction of your home – thicker walls will reduce the range – and any sources of interference such as neighbouring monitor systems, computer wireless networks, and even microwave ovens with some models.

Interference is less of a problem these days, as most models will now let you select from a range of channels to operate on, so if you do encounter interference problems, you can switch to a new channel to hopefully clear things up. Some units only feature two or four channels which you have to manually select, while the more advanced designs now have hundreds of channels which will be selected automatically to minimize interference in the current conditions.

The more modern monitors, like so much else these days, use digital technology. What this means in practice is a clearer signal, and an increased range of operation.

Those are the basics of audio monitors, but there are other features available depending on the model. A popular one is an intercom or talkback system where you can talk to your baby through the monitor, helping you to soothe her back to sleep without the disturbance of going into the nursery. Other models may have nightlights or lullabies which you can set to play either automatically or by hand, again without entering the room, while another common feature is temperature alerts where you can see how warm the nursery is, and be alerted if it falls outside a safe range.

For most people, an audio monitor is sufficient, but some people value the extra security of having a video monitor where you can actually see your baby on a TV screen built into the receiver. If you decide to get a video monitor, make sure it has night vision capability, or it won’t be much use when it’s dark!

For complete reassurance that your baby is slepping safely, you can also get a breathing and movement monitor. This consists of a pressure pad placed under the cot mattress, which will sense if your baby stops breathing or shows other signs of distress, and alert you immediately.

The final point to consider when choosing a monitor system is price. The range is enormous, from only a few dollars up to a few hundred. For something as essential as a monitor though, it’s worth getting the best model you can afford, as after all, if the system doesn’t work well and you can’t trust it, then it’s effectively a waste of time.

Getting what you need for your newborn without going broke

Its been said time and again that babies cost a pretty penny. Although little Brad or Jennifer wont hop out of the birth canal and start demanding servants and expensive electronic gadgets, they do represent some additional expenses that can be wallet-draining when considered all at once. Fortunately the expenses do not have to be incurred all at once even an unplanned pregnancy allots nine months to plan and gradually deal with the expenses associated with procreation. There are several steps that expectant parents can take to help cut down on some of the major expenses that are expected.

Baby Showers

A baby shower is a time honored tradition in which expectant mothers get a bunch of free stuff from their friends and family members. Dont be afraid or ashamed to take advantage of this situation. A decent shower can often cover most of the immediate baby layette needs. Usually someone will offer to hold a shower for the expectant mom, but she shouldnt be afraid to drop hints to close friends and family or even come right out and ask for a shower.

Buy Diapers in Advance

When is the best time to start buying diapers and other such essentials? The moment after conception would be ideal, but since most women dont know that theyre expecting until weeks or even months later, you may have to settle for as soon as you find out. Start adding diapers to your regular shopping list and try to pick up one or two packages each week. Varying between size one and two is a good idea, with perhaps a pack or two of the newborn size. If you have a bigger baby you dont want to be stuck with lots of newborn size diapers that youll never use. If the baby is normal size it is easy to buy newborn sizes while you need them and rest easy in the knowledge that youre already stocked up on the next sizes up. A lower cost alternative to this is to use a cloth diaper service if you can find one still in operation in your area.

Get Help & Buy Used Whenever Possible

For large baby needs like cribs, playpens, and strollers, try and get the help of family members with these purchases. Proud grandparents to be are usually more than happy to help with items like these. A lot of money can be saved by purchasing these items second-hand as well. If a used crib, stroller, or playpen is in good condition, there is no reason not to buy it over a new one. The only item you probably dont want to buy used is a car seat. These items must meet safety requirements and there is no way to be sure that a used one measures up to current standards.

A little planning and thinking ahead is all it takes to save serious money on most of your initial and ongoing baby needs. They real key to setting up your baby layette on a budget is to start as soon as possible.

Baby showers are generally held in the later stages of pregnancy (in the last 2 months, for instance). There are, however, certain cultural beliefs that make people purposefully wait for the baby to arrive before having a baby shower. Adoptive parents, at times, wait until after the adoption is final and the baby has arrived in their home.

Baby showers are generally organized by close friends, relatives, or co-workers of the expectant parents (because baby showers center on gift-giving, it is considered inappropriate for a family member to host such events).

In its early form, baby showers were held exclusively for mothers-to-be, and only women were invited to attend the party. In addition, baby showers were traditionally held only for the first child. Today, however, many people arrange baby showers for both parents, and they can now be also arranged for every succeeding children (even children who have been adopted).

Activities in a baby shower typically include games, special activies, presents, and, most especially, food.

Below are some of the most common baby shower recipes:

Pizza Sandwiches

Pizza sauce (can be store-bought or homemade)
Cottage cheese (lowfat)
English muffins
Parmesan cheese

1. Mix 2-3 tbsp of pizza sauce with 2-3 tbsp of cottage cheese.

2. Spread the mixture onto one half of the English muffin.

3. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.

4. Broil for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve.

Creamy Tomato Soup

1 tsp vegetable oil
1 can tomato soup (condensed)
Milk
1 tbsp basil
Mozarella or croutons (for toppings)

1. Heat vegetable oil in a medium saucepan.

2. Add the tomato soup.

3. Add milk (approximately the same amount as that of the tomato soup).

4. Add basil and cook slowly on low heat (do not boil).

5. Top with a sprinkling of shredded mozzarella and croutons. Serve.

Cheese Balls

lb cheese (cheddar or grated)
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 pack cream cheese
4 oz Tabasco sauce
2 tsp onion
Chopped nuts
2 tsp catsup or chili sauce

1. Mix all ingredients together using a mixer or a food processor (the cheese should be at room temperature).

2. Empty mixed ingredients on small bowls lined with plastic wrap.

3. Refrigerate overnight.

4. To serve, remove wrap and sprinkle with nuts. Serve with assorted crackers.

Chicken Puffs

4 tbsp butter
cup boiling water
cup flour
2 eggs
cup shredded cheese
2 cups cooked chicken
2 tbsp olives
2 tbsp wine
cup mayonnaise

1. Melt butter in boiling water.

2. Add flour.

3. Stir vigorously until mixture forms a ball.

4. Remove from heat and cool slightly.

5. Add egg and beat briskly until smooth.

6. Stir in cheese.

7. Scoop 1 tsp dough into a greased baking sheet.

8. Preheat oven to 400F.

9. Bake the puffs for 20 minutes. Remove from oven, cool, and split.

10. Combine the remaining ingredients with the finely chopped cooked chicken, pimiento, and olives.

11. Fill each puff with 2 tsp of the mixture. Serve.

There are just some of the baby shower recipes, there are numerous others to choose from – from sandwiches & finger foods, to snacks and dips and sweets – appetizing, yet simple and very easy to prepare.

Baby Shower Planning: Tips, Advice, And Ideas For A Successful Shower

Planning a baby shower is the perfect way of expressing Congratulations, or Were happy for you, or Best wishes when a newborn has been added to the family.

Aimed at further boosting the parents-to-bes excitement for the future member of their family, the baby shower is usually hosted by a close friend or relative, at any time during the last months of the pregnancy.

Just like any other party, a baby shower requires careful planning to ensure that it will go as smoothly as possible, and be memorable for everyone. Although there are no rules cast in stone in preparing for a baby shower, there are some helpful tips to follow to help the host organize every aspect of the event.

1) Decide on the location.

Most baby showers are held at the parent-to-bes house, since the expectant mothers health needs to be considered. It is recommended for small, intimate parties, with only the closest friends and family members. Guests also tend to be more comfortable if the partys setting is at home.

If the expectant parents love the outdoors, a barbecue party at their garden, or a local park may also be an option. Naturally, the weather must be considered baby shower does not literally mean soaking the guests in the rain.

For less complications, the host may reserve a secluded area in a restaurant or bar. It may be more costly, but at least the decoration, food and drinks, as well as the post-party cleanup will already be taken care of.

2) Choose the partys theme.

For easier decoration ideas, a theme may be decided upon. Consider the expectant parents favorite movies or hangouts. Another option is to decorate the party site by re-creating the place where they had their honeymoon, such as a cruise ship, or Paris-inspired caf.

Since the party will also be a celebration of the future baby, a childish atmosphere may also be considered. Choose cartoon characters, bright colors, and other designs depending on the babys gender.

3) Finalize the menu.

The partys menu will depend upon the time of the event. In most baby showers, the host serves finger food, pastries and other baked goods for convenience. However, if the event will be held during lunch or dinner time, heavier meals will naturally be served. Alcoholic drinks may also be prepared, depending on the guests preference.

4) Design a fun program.

Contrary to what most people believe, a baby shower is not only limited to mingling around, gift giving, eating and drinking. Fun games may also be included, such as charades, or those which will bring back the guests childhood memories. Remember that the main point is to make sure everyone will have a good time, and various games will surely liven up the event.

5) Create the guest list and send out invitations.

Prepare a list of the expectant parents closest friends and family members. Make sure to seek their approval before sending out invitations, to avoid any embarrassing mistakes later. Bear in mind that its the parents event, and not the hosts, so their choice of people should matter the most.

Ready-made baby shower invitations are readily available in gift shops and craft stores. However, homemade invitations may also be used to provide the hosts personal touch.

Send out invitations out two to four weeks before the party to give time for the guests to fix their schedule. Baby shower invitations follow the same format as any other invitation it indicates the date, time, place, attire preferred, gift registry, if any, the hosts contact numbers for RSVP. Just to be organized, prepare a final list of attendees a few days before the baby shower.

A baby shower is a traditional way of celebrating the coming (or the birth) of a new baby and welcoming him or her as a new member of the family. They can be hosted and organized by anybody, usually the close friends/group of friends or relatives of the expectant parents. It was once considered improper for family members to host baby showers (because they usually center on the gift giving), but nowadays it is fine for family members to help (and plan) them.

Baby showers are usually held a month or two before the mother’s expected due date (some cultures, however, consider it bad luck to hold baby showers before the baby is born). They are intended not only to welcome the baby but also to help the expectant parents by giving them gifts that they will need for the baby.

Planning for a baby shower can be an enormous task. Everything requires a great deal of planning – from the guest list, to handing out invitations, to the decorations, to the games, to baby shower favors – and, most especially, to the food.

Every party cannot be without food, as they are considered as one of the best parts or the highlight of a party. This applies to baby showers as well.

There are numerous types of food that you can serve during baby showers. Some of them are the following:

Bread or sandwiches Dessert (cakes, cookies, ice cream, etc.) Chips or fries Pasta Pies (pizzas, etc.) Salad Drinks (punch, juice, wine, etc.)

Below is a list of several tips and guidelines on food ideas that will surely delight your guests and the parents-to-be:

1. The baby shower food that you serve will largely depend on the time of day when it will be held. A baby shower that will be held at noon or at dinnertime usually requires a full ’sit-down’ meal, while early afternoon or early evening showers can do with appetizers, salads, and finger foods. In addition, the amount of food that you need to prepare will depend on the number of guests you will be inviting.

2. Have multiple snack trays for serving different varieties of food – you can have one with an assortment of finger sandwiches, another with sliced turkey or smoked chicken, and still another with sliced fresh vegetables served with a dip that you can place in the center of the tray.

3. Try to match your food and keep them in-line with the baby shower’s theme (if ever there is any). You may consider serving scones and finger sandwiches if your baby shower theme is a tea party. Or, if you are having a nursery rhyme-themed baby shower, cakes and pies that resemble the characters from famous nursery rhyme (such as Humpty Dumpty deviled eggs).

4. Put some ‘life’ in the baby shower foods that you will serve. Instead of serving your fruit salad in a simple salad bowl, try presenting them in a melon bowl (or better yet, in a baby carriage-shaped melon server).

5. Decorate your food table by tossing baby pacifier candies, chocolate bars, and confetti all over it.

6. Personalize your eating utensils. Match their colors with the color scheme of the entire party. Consider using disposable cups or plates for easy clean up.

7. It is important to take into account the special diet of the mom-to-be, so try to avoid serving food that the pregnant mom herself would not eat. In addition to her allergies and food aversions, avoid the types of food that are prone to contamination and food poisoning, such as soft cheeses, uncooked meat and (most especially) alcohol.

By following these food tips, you will surely be able to pull off a successful (and memorable) baby shower.
