Toy Planes Still Make the Grade

Posted by admin

Do you remember playing with toy planes as a child? How if you used your imagination, rather than running, you were flying right alongside your toy airplane. This is a great way to share a piece of your childhood with your children. If you enjoyed this activity as a child, why wouldnt you want to share this with your children?

Often as parents, we are afraid our children wont like the same things we did, because there are more technologically advanced things on the market today, and yet our children will get all kinds of toys with bells and whistles at Christmas time and still have more fun playing with the wrapping paper and boxes than the gifts filling them. Think about this when you wonder about your cherished memories being too lame or old fashioned. After all, how long have cardboard boxes been around?

I always make a point of showing my children the things that had a large impact on my childhood. Whether they enjoy them or not is entirely up to your child, but you can build memories simply through the act of sharing those things. We live in a world where time is such a precious commodity, how could you possibly better spend your time, than sharing fond memories of your childhood with your children, especially the memories of good clean fun.

Toy planes today are far more sophisticated than they were when we were children and yet the old-fashioned wood and rubber band airplanes still exist. And the most amazing thing is that both of them are good sellers even after all these years the traditional toy plane is popular among children and parents as a bonding experience. Toy planes represent freedom, wings, what more beautiful thing can you give a child to play with?

Baby Shower Themes – For Party Success Then You Have To Impress

Welcoming a new edition to the family is a wonderful and joyous moment.

An even more exciting time lies ahead with the planning of a unique baby shower for the new arrival. Preparing for a baby shower can be a fun and exciting experience for all involved. You can plan for the event to be grand or simple but the most important issue is to make the occasion a very memorable one. This can be done by choosing the right theme and by doing this you can rest assured that the guests will leave the baby shower party mentally maimed with fond memories.

You have an abundance of options to select from. Ideas/themes can be humorous or on a serious level the preference is yours for the baby shower.
Baby Showers are always a success and are sure to impress with careful planning, therefore it is important to finalize your decision on the theme so that you can prepare to claim the effect you want portrayed at the baby shower party

Spice up the baby party theme with colour, we all know blue for boys pink for girls but once again this is you and your babys day so you choose. For the venue decorate the room with coloured balloons, ribbons, big bows little bows or hang down streamers whatever. If the sex of the baby is unknown at the time of the gathering keep to neutral colours such as lemon white peach.
A baby bottle theme is very poplar at baby showers where the baby bottle stands proud as a centrepiece. Fun can be added to your party by using the bottles as cups for the guests.

Cuddly toys like teddies are cute and make perfect decorative items. Try placing the teddy among other cuties. If the baby shower party is to be cost effective then why not ask friends and family for cuddly toys to use instead of buying. Make sure that the borrowed pieces are in a presentable condition for the day

Diaper or nappy themes go down well at baby showers. Let your guests know in advance of your particular theme, this can be done by adding this info onto the invitations giving the guest some hindsight behind what gift to give, it is a good chance it will be diapers.(You can never have to many)

The forever favourite is a nursery rhyme theme.
Party themes based on nursery rhyme characters like humpty dumpty. Little Bo peep or Bambi are just a few to mention

Double trouble twins, not to worry things do not need to be doubled or repeated twice. A superb theme for this occasion is Noah and the ark for pregnant women expecting twins; don’t forget to let your guest know that they are coming to this baby shower to celebrate two bundles of joy. Fingers crossed two prezzies into the bargain

Baby Showers is a celebration which fills the air with joy so therefore we need a happy atmosphere. If your budget is tighter than you thought then ask the guests to come in brightly coloured costumes this will surely spruce and spice up the occasion. Who needs ribbons and balloons if the company is good?

How Mothers Can And Should Really Enjoy A Hot Bubble Bath

Okay I admit it I love to take hot relaxing bubble baths. Nothing beats soaking in a tub and reading a good book at the same time. I usually skip the glass of wine, I am much more apt to have a glass of diet coke instead.

Before motherhood I would often take my luxurious soak in the evenings. But as all good mother’s know, if the kids are home there is no real relaxing. They have you cornered and will often want to chat or have untold questions to ask when you are in the tub. After all you can give them your undivided attention at this time. Plus it is always fun to play with the bubbles when mommy is in the tub.

Don’t get me wrong I cherish all the chats my daughter and I have had while I was soaking, and we will both always have fond memories of her putting bubbles on my head and then erupting into giggles. I wouldn’t replace those memories for anything, even the privacy to enjoy my bath. But once in awhile I thought it would be nice to treat myself to the luxury.

Now that my daughter just started school I decided to occasionally take my long soaks in the late morning after getting all the housework done. Well maybe not getting all of it done, but all that I am going to do. Life is too short to worry about every little dust bunny and cobweb in my opinion. Plus if you let them build up a bit you feel such a sense of accomplishment when you eventually get around to them. That is my philosophy anyway.

But just like telemarketers always call at supper time, someone always calls or the doorbell rings when I am in the tub. Not only do these interruptions ruin the relaxation they sure don’t make fond memories that I will later want to reminisce about.

So I have came to the decision that I will go back to evening bubble baths, after all there will be a time in the future when she will be too grown up to want to talk to mom while she is in the tub and to giggle over the bubbles. I think I will cherish and embrace every memory that I can, because they grow up way too fast.

Have A Holiday Tea Party This Year!

Posted by admin

Teatime! It’s as if it’s just part of being a girl … hats, little teacups, beads and bracelets. Girls of all ages love a fabulous tea party!

There are so many great reasons to join up with our friends across the Atlantic and begin the tradition of afternoon tea EVERY day, but especially at the holidays, creating the tradition of a special holiday tea will provide a fabulous memory for our girls that will last a lifetime! Some of the benefits of planning a holiday tea:

1. It’s fun! As I said above, girls of all ages LOVE the ritual of tea. Picture young ladies dressed in their holiday finery … soft Christmas tunes playing in the background. There is something about pouring the liquid out of the pot into lovely cups… it’s just a little slice of heaven.

2. It’s peaceful. Be honest! This time of the year can be downright nutty at times and throughout most of the holiday season life is anything but peaceful. Provide a respite from the craziness of the holidays around a cup of tea. You’ll see… peaceful…. ahhhhh, this is how the holidays should be!

3. It’s memory building. Think of years from now when your girls will be recounting the fond memories of your holiday tea together. Better yet, imagine seeing your girls start the same tradition with their girls.

4. It’s enriching. There is really no easier way to teach your young ladies manners than at a lovely tea table. Opportunities abound in teatime to show your little ladies how to be kind, quiet and caring, as well as how to use a fork, sip without slurping, etc.

5. It encourages conversation. What a great time to set aside and reminisce about old family traditions and memories of the holidays. Talk about favorite holidays of the past or memories of your grandparents’ visits, etc.

Now the last thing I want to do is create more stress for your holidays by throwing something difficult on you. Relaxing tea parties can be very simple and resources and books abound on the topic. Here are some easy steps to plan your first holiday tea.

1. Keep it small. Invite only your daughter’s closest friends and limit it to just a few for this first tea. If you’re inviting moms and daughters and can enlarge your dining room table, plan for a comfortable space between guests at the table.

2. Set your date. The typical English teatime is in the afternoon but that doesn’t have to be the rule for the holidays. Find a time that works best for you and your guests, and limit the time to about a two-hour slot so the time in itself doesn’t create stress for your guests.

3. Plan your menu. Again, simple is best. Scones, cucumber sandwiches, and a nice array of holiday cookies would make for the perfect tea menu. We always have some back up peanut butter and jelly sandwiches too, just in case for the younger ones.

4. Send your invites. Keep them simple as well. Print them out with a fancy font on your computer and stamp with a poinsettia or other holiday image. Or use the wonderful clip art available online. Or, even better, if your girls enjoy drawing and you have time, make handmade invitations.

5. On the day of the tea, set an elegant table. This is the only part of our holiday tea where I’d say go elaborate rather than simple. Use your finest plates and teacups, cloth napkins and napkin rings if you have them. Have your girls make up place cards for each guest so as they come in they can be seated immediately. Turn on the holiday music and start the tea water to boiling as the guest arrive so it will be at it’s freshest when you all sit. Most of all relax and enjoy the tea with your guests. This is not an event where you’ll want to be getting up and down. Pour out and begin sharing your favorite holiday memories.

Start with a holiday tea this year and you’ll see… it will become an annual tradition not to be missed!

Cookies And Kids

Posted by admin

I dont know what it is but there are some smells that bring back fond memories and one of them is the whiff of a freshly baked cookie. I dont have a particularly sweet tooth and can actually survive without cakes or chocolates but once I am hit by that cookie smell I am taken to a warm and wonderful place. I want to enjoy the cookie all on my own and find myself a quiet place with a cup of my favourite coffee and prepare to be in heaven.

It isnt just eating a freshly baked cookie that is enjoyable but making them can be very satisfying too. Cookie baking can be great fun if you have young kids and that is probably where some of my earliest cookie memories come from. I remember how much I loved helping my grandma mix all the cookie ingredients together and then shape them on a baking tray before she put them in the oven. I felt so special when she let me lick the mixing bowl clean of the cookie mixture too! Anyway, the first time I suggested that my daughter could help me bake some cookies she was about four years old and her little face lit up. We made quite a mess I must be honest but we really had a great time together and the cookies didnt turn out all that bad either.

If you have young kids in your family then why not give cookie baking a try? You dont have to be a wonderful cook; in fact you can buy cookie mixes that you just have to add water to so you have more chance of baking great cookies. You could always buy some of the cookie dough that has become popular but I think that the mixing process is the best bit! Making different shapes of cookies and then decorating them afterwards is also something that most kids love to do. You might even think about giving some of these homemade cookies as gifts, especially if your kids helped make them. A cookie that was decorated by a grandchild for Christmas or any other special occasion is bound to be enjoyed far more than a store bought one.
